At a Glance
  • Converts 120,000 tons of biomass residue into renewable energy per year

  • Generates 2.4 Megawatts of renewable energy for the Southern India power grid

  • Produces 10,000 tons of high quality solid organic fertilizer

Projects Benefits
  • Reduces methane gas emissions from open storage of chicken manure

  • Displaces the need for carb intensive energy sources for the local power grid

  • The byproduct of biogas provides a high-quality organic fertilizer and soil conditioner for local farmers

  • Supports regional smallholders to implement sustainable agriculture practices

  • Created 30 jobs in the rural community of Namakkal, Tamil Nadu

  • Improves waste management within the community which contributes to enhanced hygiene

About social
These projects support communities by improving quality of life and stimulating economic development. This is achieved through initiatives like improved household technologies and access to everyday necessities like clean drinking water.
How it works
  • The project developer funds the creation of the anaerobic digestion plant to take chicken litter and other byproducts of the food industry and convert them to renewable biogas energy

  • Community members are hired to maintain and run the facility, providing job opportunities and stimulating the local economy

  • The renewable energy generated by the facility displaces the demand for more carbon intensive energy sources, reducing carbon emissions

  • A bonus byproduct of biogas as an electricity source is organic fertilizer, this is bagged and available to smallholder farmers, promoting sustainable agriculture in the region

  • The maintenance of the chicken litter creates a more hygienic, healthy and happy community
